Using Jobs Boards to find that perfect position

Jobs boards are online portals that allow people to upload their CV for many employers or recruitment agencies to search through. If you are looking for a job then I would strongly recommend this type of job searching.

You need to make your CV tailored as much as possible to all types of jobs that you may wish to apply for as unlike sending it to one particularly company, where you may tweak it, the same CV will be seen by all.

Some jobs boards are free and others will charge you a subscription fee to be a member. Some of the boards allow you to register for free but will give you a more prominent position within the site if you upgrade your profile, meaning that your CV is more likely to be seen by potential recruiters. Always check carefully the terms and conditions of any subscription fees you may have to pay.

Fed up in your current job? Get in touch with a recruitment agency

If you feel fed up and under stimulated in your current role then it could be time for a change. The issue is that whilst doing a full time job finding time to do a job search can seem impossible. Many people end up stuck in stressful jobs demotivated and feeling trapped however there is something that you can do.

First you need to make time over a weekend to update your CV and write a cover letter that talks about what you’d have to offer your idea role and how your past experience would translate into similar roles.

Then contact just a few recruitment agents, sending them your CV and asking whether they have anything on their books at the moment that they think would suit your skill set.

This is a much quicker way of looking for suitable roles than trailing through random job sites and can be much more effective.

Skills needed to be an account manager

The role of an account manager can be done across many different types of companies, it’s a role that describes the person who is in charge of the day to day running of an existing clients regular business account. This can be anything from fleet vehicles to an account sent up to purchase stock for a store or business.

For this role you need to have great people skills that allow you to have a good ongoing professional yet friendly relationship with your customer. It would be your job to ensure that the account runs smoothly and deal with any enquires or complaints that may arise. You do tend to be a bit of a middle-man between your company and the client and therefore need good negotiation skills to ensure that both parties are happy with the running of the account.

You will also normally be expected to up sell to your existing client so good sales skills are a definite bonus here.

It’s a busy job but can be very rewarding if you like problem solving and people management.

Working as a bridal make-up artist

This for many beauticians starting out is a dream job, making up a bride and her wedding party for the big day is a real pleasure and is great fun!

This type of work usually involves you being self-employed or working for a larger company on a contracted basis and in the case of the former will require a fair set-up cost of buying in make-up and brushes as well as any skin products that you may need. You will also usually need to provide your own transport to the brides chosen venue taking with you everything you need.

Once you are set up it’s all about advertising as much as you can, on social media, in local papers and magazines and at wedding fayres. It’s a good idea to have with you a picture portfolio of previous work that you have done for prospective customers to see what you can do.

Once a customer is interested it’s essential to do a trial before the big day so that you can try out different techniques and make sure you give them the perfect look for their wedding.

When does your interview really start?

So you get up on the morning of your interview and wonder when your interview realistically begins, is it the moment you enter the building, are your prospective employers watching your every move as you sit nervously in the waiting area or does it start once you enter the interview room, what about when you first make contact with an employee there?? These questions could drive you mad however the lesson is that when going to an interview you should act professional at all times and should act in a way that you would be happy for a potential employer to witness.
Unfortunately this was not the case in a story that recently appeared in the news, a man in London was on his was to work and travelling on the tube when he was rudely pushed out of the way by a fellow commuter and sworn at. On arriving at work the man prepared to interview his first candidate of the day only to find that the man he was interviewing was the very same commuter who swore at him only hours before!
Needless to say that interview certainly did not begin in the interview room and rightly or wrongly a bad first impression can stick, so consider your actions and always try to remain professional to avoid such a faux pas.

How to Get Teaching Jobs – From Research to CV Preperation

The rate of unemployment in the UK and other parts of the world is quite high. This is very interesting especially due to the fact that there are many employment opportunities in the UK as well as other parts of the world. If you take a look at the teaching jobs in Market Rasen; you will discover that there are over one thousand employment opportunities for teachers.

The reason why most people are skilled for the job but have not been employed is because most people do not know how to go about taking advantage of the teaching opportunities. There are several things you can do to get a teaching job.

The first thing you need to do before you start looking for a job in teaching is to make sure that you have all the required qualifications. Flexible Working

Under law, all employees now have the right to request flexible working. This means you don’t have to have child care issues to approach your employer about flexible start times or working from home. Your employer must treat your request reasonably, which includes meeting with you to discuss the issue and offer an appeal process. You must have been employed for 26 weeks to have the statutory right to make such a request and you may only make one such request every 12 months.

Flexible working is usually sought by parents who have to take children to school or nursery as these times are often not compatible with the usual working day. There are other reasons that might compel you to seek flexible hours but you should consider carefully how the hours you want will fit with your current role and duties.

In reality, some employers will be more inclined to consider your request than others. A lot depends on the nature of your job as well as your perceived value to the employer. If they don’t want to lose you, they’ll be more inclined to work with you to find a solution.

Job share roles and what that means

You may have seen a job advertised that states the position is based on a job share role. This basically means that the job will be shared by someone else. It may mean that you are going to be working with someone else that is already working for the business or that the position has been advertised for two new people.

There are some things that you should consider when looking at job share roles, some points are positive and others may not suit you. Sharing responsibility with someone else can be great, two minds to think things through and bounce ideas, share the work load and work closely with someone on something you are passionate about. Say this though, there can also be a negative side of the position. If you find that you are having to work with someone that you do not get on with, or has a totally different working style to you this could cause problems. It may be that you are sharing the role with someone that is not very good at passing on information to you or updating records, this can actually cause you a lot more work in the long run.

If possible try and find out how the role will be split i.e. is it that you will each have totally sepreate responsibilities or clients that you will look after or will you be working on ongoing projects together.

Advertising to recruit a new member of staff

When looking for a new member of staff it can be hard to know what the best way to advertise the new position is. There are online websites where you can place recruitment adverts which can be a great way of advertising to the masses, however if you are looking to target a more specific audience then you may want to think of a more direct approach. If you are advertising a teaching job then any education based magazine or website would be ideal as most of the audience will already be in that employment area.

If you are looking to recruit part time staff or staff for a job that does not require a specific skill set then putting up advertising posters in youth clubs, student halls and local shop windows could be the most effective advertising method.

It’s also important to word the advert in a way that will grab the attention of your targeted audience to make sure that you get the maximum interest from suitable candidates.

Proof reading your CV

Proof reading a CV is vital and can be the difference between you landing that dream job and not. Ideally once you have written your CV and read it a few times (I would suggest re-reading it the next day as well to double check), you should ask a friend or relative to have a look over it for you as it is often a lot easier for someone else looking at a CV with a fresh set of eyes to notice mistakes.

Common mistakes made include, leaving statements, qualifications / employment history and even contact details on a CV that do not relate to you. This may happen if you have used someone else’s CV as a template for your own.

Never make the font too large so as to fill the page of a CV (size 10-12 is often good depending on font type) but also do not make it too small as it can be hard to read.
