CV writing errors to avoid

Posted on January 31, 2016 at 11:35 pm

A CV is basically an outline of your employment, experience and qualification history. It is meant to give the employer an overview of what you are capable of and what skills you have that are suitable to the job that they are offering.

When writing a CV there are some common errors that candidates make that can be the difference between being invited to an interview and not. Below are a few examples:

  • Incorrect contact details – this may sound simple but it happens very often. Putting the wrong number or email address on cannot only mean the employer cannot get in touch with you but can make you look very unprofessional
  • Making your CV too long – No one has the time to read pages and pages of a CV. Keep it concise, relevant and to the point.
  • Using different fonts and font sizes throughout your CV – This will make it look messy and inconsistent and can be enough to put some employers off instantly.
