How to conduct an interview

If you are responsible for carrying out interviews within a company then you may need tips and advice about how to conduct it. If it is your first time in interviewing potential employees then you need to ensure you are well prepared to make sure you get the most information out of the short time you have to interview a candidate.

Making a list of questions to ask all candidates is vital and will allow you some way to compare one against another. Be sure to familiarise yourself with the interviewees CV prior to them arriving so you can highlight any particular part of it you want to find out more about. This may be a gap in employment, responsibilities of a previous job role or discussing their personal circumstances such as hours they are available to work or travelling distance.

Remember that you may feel nervous but the candidate is probably more nervous, if you are prepared it will make the whole process easier for everyone.
